Social and Economic Justice
|

In today's world, none of us can prosper for long unless all
of us have the things we need for lives of sufficiency and dignity.
|
In our work for social and economic justice,
our priorities are identical to those articulated in Catholic Social
Teaching and the Earth
Charter. Through our work and actions we strive to:
- Eradicate poverty as an ethical, social and environmental
imperative;
- Ensure that economic activities and institutions at all levels
promote human development in an equitable and sustainable manner;
- Affirm gender equality and equity as prerequisites to sustainable
development and ensure universal access to education, health care and
economic opportunity; and
- Uphold the right of all, without discrimination, to a natural and
social environment supportive of human dignity, bodily health and
spiritual well-being, with special attention to the rights of
indigenous peoples and minorities.
(Earth Charter, Principle III, 9-12)
Working to make this vision a reality is the challenge
we have put before ourselves in Chapter Direction 2004, Holy Cross
Women Creating and Strengthening Right Relationships. We have
committed ourselves to nonviolent action and advocacy to achieve this
vision, and invite others to join with us through the Holy
Cross Action Center.
